Well this is interesting. Looks like I am not going to Italy until after the 5th Sept because I'd hate to miss Charlton away. GILLS ON BOXING DAY!!!!!!! I'm there :D I've unbolded the ones I'm not going to! Seems like I am going to have a busy year this time round, there aren't that many away games that I can't get to. Of course, this is other arrangements permitting. I do plan to get to Italy for a few days in January and March, but I expect I can do that in the week unless there are games I want to see there.

Anyway, not sorry at all to spam your flists with our fixtures :p

06:12 pm - CAMPIONI Brentford 2 Luton Town 0
What a day it was yesterday! We got the train to Brentford in the knowledge we'd end up getting drunk afterwards. We went to the superstore first to get some scarves and mugs and t-shirts and such with "08-09 league 2 champions" on. Then we went to the usual pub. All the usual suspects were there: Dave, Andy, Rob, Gary and all those great guys who sit a row behind us on the New Road. So we had a few drinks and said how great it was: our cup final day where we didn't even have to win to get the cup.

But win we did. It wasn't the most exciting game in the world but nobody had anything to play for, we were already champions and Luton were already relegated.

#BEES UP LUTON DOWN, BEES UP LUTON DOWN. BEES UP, BEES UP, BEES UP, BEES UP, BEES UP LUTON DOWN!!#

Them singing "your support is fucking shit" at our packed out stands was beyond funny.

Karleigh Osbourne got the first goal and Adam Newton the second. Newton was so excited about it, he tore off his shirt and threw it reaaaaally high into the air then got jumped by the team, especially Ben Hamer.

Unfortunately the problem we had was pitch invasion. We apparently paid loads for the stewards that did nothing. I mean there were 10 year old kids on the pitch, if the stewards can't even stop them then why bother paying for them. People invaded the pitch before the final whistle blew, it was irritating and ruined the end of the game!! The police horses came out to separate us and Luton but no Luton Town were causing any trouble or even trying to get on the pitch. It wasn't malicious, just selfish and over-excited.

Once the pitch was cleared, they brought out the podium and some fireworks and ribbony-releasing-explodey-things. I cried a little when the 'champions' thing went up. Unfortunately we were on the opposite side from the presentation and didn't see much. And annoyingly the pitch was invaded again and we had to wait ages for the players to come back out and do the lap.

When they did come though it was awesome, me and Dad went down to the front and Bennett, Andy Scott, Poole, Bean, Osbourne and OMG...HALLS!! came and looked at us and smiled and held the trophy. Andy Scott was so lovely he came right over and celebrated. He likes to look every fan in the eye. What a wonderful man. Halls is as beutiful close up as from a distance (please stay next season) and Bennett has a lovely smile.

Pictures: Not under a cut cos we are important and you will look at them!! lol

Captain Bennett!

After the players left the pitch we went back to the Nelson for a quick drink with Rob, Diana, Malcolm and this guy whose name I forget. It was well quiet in the Nelson though so we went to join the others in the Globe. The Globe was so great, we were all in the garden singing. Billy Bee had his keyboard and played songs for us to sing.

Music man was so great: #MARCUS BEAAAN....OH WE WON THE CUP IN DARLINGTON...CAMPIONI, CAMPIONI...ANDY SCOTT, ANDY SCOTT!! VIOLIN...PIANO...# lol

Then it was time for prayer #ANDY SCOTT MY LORD, ANDY SCOTT. CHARLIE MCDONALD MY LORD, CHARLIE MCDONALD#

We sang an old song for Isiah Rankin and Billy added verses about the current players #GIVE ME GOALS ISIAH GIVE ME GOALS ISIAH GIVE ME GOALS UNTIL THE MORNING COMES....#

I had like 8 bottles of beer and had a rough night's sleep and a rough hangover. But it was one of the best evenings of my life. Drinking and singing till the sun went down. #WE'RE THE MIDDLE, WE'RE THE MIDDLE, WE'RE THE MIDDLE OF THE GLOBE!#

I'll remember it forever. Stuff like this doesn't happen to the small fry like Brentford very often and we have had so much disappointment. To be back in League 1 is a great achievement, we could have gone the way of Luton. Andy Scott is the man to take us even further. I have never respected a Brentford manager so much, we have had so much trash like Downes, Butcher, Rosenior and questionable characters (Martin Allen) Little clubs like us deserve our day and we've had such a day. I can't wait for next season. I will miss Griffin Park these next few months.

Thankyou Andy Scott. Thankyou Brentford FC.

12:21 am - CHANGE.
Relationships. I hate them, fucking hate them.

But they get themselves into your life and all of a sudden you can't imagine life without them. You'd even finally be convinced to tackle something about yourself that you haven't ever wanted to tackle, just so they won't leave you.

If anyone hears me call myself ugly or put myself down in any way looks-wise, just hit me. I read through the MSN convo I just had with my boyfriend and I feel sick with myself. Everything he said was just thrown back at him. Because I'm ugly, because I'm not sexy, because I am not a 'proper' woman. What defines us as women anyway? Is it just the parts? Got those. Or is it the clothes and makeup. Got them, even if I spend my time refusing to believe they make me attractive, even when I can see the difference in front of my eyes. Is it the nurturing 'mother' side who loves straight sex with men? I haven't got that, thats what I haven't got and fear I won't ever get. But that isn't what he wants anyway.

It HAS to stop. The low self esteem has to stop NOW. I need to relax about what other people think about me, especially the boyfriend who wants me for me and for the way I look. He doesn't deserve all that shit. Just for having feelings for me.

I am not ugly. I am passable, I can be attractive. I have good legs, great tits, look fab in skirts and heels. This does not mean I have to get married and have kids. I am an attractive, independant woman.

For god's sake I was bullied as a CHILD. I'm 22 now, I haven't been bullied in years. The only bully is me. All this time I refused to acknowledge that, feeling the whole world secretly think I am ugly. I have put too much focus on looks because I am naturally vain. Natural vanity plus low self-esteem does not equal good things. So the self-bullying has to go.

It's out. Life will be better without it.

E adesso, sta succendo la stessa cosa a me??

A lui ho detto, in inglese "If you don't like it, you can lump it" e poi, tutti e due ce ne siamo andati in fretta.

06:45 pm - Dentists
Question for all UK residents on my flist:

Do you use a private or an NHS dentist and how much do you pay?

I think that I am paying too much at my private dentist (£35 for a check up and £35 for cleaning = £70 WAT?) and I want to change but it seems like dentists are short in this country and nobody is taking on any new patients.

But its worth a try to find somewhere else if its going to be significantly cheaper.

Was watching some morecambe and wise on youtube earlier, as you do. This is easily one of the best sketches ever, its definately my favourite sketch of all I have seen:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XRSYe3nJUzg

Been thinking how much I love comedy. I just think there is nothing better than a really good laugh. QI and Lenny Henry Live at the Apollo on Friday night might be the reason. But spent some time today having a good laugh at Morecambe and Wise and the Two Ronnies and the Lenny Henry show.

Here's a few more for a good larf...

10:49 pm - Funny music meme
Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.

I don't know what words I can say

Since you been gone
Are you ready?
Hands touch, eyes meet
A walk in the park

Zoom your body into the moonlight
The hills are alive with the sound of music
I see crazy patterns every time I look your way
Bad horse, bad horse

I was a sailor, I was lost at sea
Trying hard, I thought I'd done my best
A polished car and a screaming siren
Sun, sun, sun

Well my daddy left home when I was three
G, R, double E, N Leaves!

Who is this man, what sort of devil is he?
Just a castaway, an island lost at sea
Life could be dream

Lets start at the very beginning
I got no control, not at all, cos you make me feel crazy now.

It just goes to show my erratic taste in music does not make good poetry...

07:08 pm - Peatlands rant - Welcome to public brainwashing by nature conservation organisations
In The Wildlife Trusts' most recent magazine (Winter 2008) there was an article on the importance of restoring 'mossland' environments in the UK. This, in itself, is excellent. Finally people are paying attention to peat, glorious.

Before I get started, I believe in peatland conservation. I think that the rare and dedicated species that it supports are important and under no circumstances should we lose them to peat extraction for horticulture, drainage and other threats. The wish to protect peatland itself is an honourable thing and I don't criticise the Wildlife Trusts for this.

HOWEVER. In this article they cut themselves short by neglecting the actual point (conserving rare species) and going on about stockpiling CO2 by rewetting peatlands. I quote "the Trust calculate that the region's restored bogs could absorb the CO2 emissions of 55,400 people every year. And thats something society needs more than another million bags of peat."

I would like to see this calculator they used and remind them of all the buttons they forgot to press.

Sure, when peat is rewetted the net flux of carbon dioxide is reversed from soil to atmosphere to atmosphere to soil. This is great and this tallies with their intention of rewetting peat and protecting the habitat.

But in their desire to get the public on side they left out the fact that (very simply) when a peatland is rewetted, archaea called 'methanogens' take over from helpful bacteria called 'methanotrophs' and instead of net oxidation of methane in the soil, the methane starts to spill out into the atmosphere. Methane that is between 60 and 24.5 times more damaging to the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. So 24.5 times as much (at least) carbon dioxide must be stored by the soil in order to balance out the methane that is being emitted. This is very UNLIKELY.

In addition, when peatlands are subject to a fluctuating water-table (LIKELY) a lot more nitrous oxide is produced (this has 268 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide). Unless they manage to keep the soil permanently flooded all year round (EXPENSIVE AND UNLIKELY) the nitrous oxide emissions from the peat WILL increase.

In short, rewetting peatlands is ABSOLUTELY NOT an effective strategy for reducing the land's global warming potential. But it is good for conservation, which is and should have always been, the point.

So their little ploy to get the public onside by LYING about the greenhouse gas balance of the peat (or at very least deliberately missing out half of the story) infuriates me. It IS important to conserve, but don't lie to the public to try and get the global warming eco-warriors on your side against peatland destruction. Most of them are likely to have SOME CLUE that global warming is not all about carbon dioxide!

I'd love to write them a letter and give them a good telling off. But I'm afraid my name will go in a little black book and they won't let me dig holes in their nature reserves any more!!! I have a friend who got on the wrong side of the Nature Trusts and is always having to oppose them. The Chobham Common Consultation is another story of lack of scientific backup to ideas of the Wildlife Trusts.

The point of this little rant is this:
Don't believe everything that conservation organisations tell you. They are just as likely as the media to bend the truth, emit half the story or tell white lies in order to get their own way. Conservation is GREAT. Taking advantage of the public IS NOT.

11:32 am - Bird
Shot in the dark here. But I don't suppose anyone on the old Flist is a birdwatcher? We have a new bird in our garden that isn't in any identification book I've seen so far. It is like a great tit but has an entirely black head, a black stripe down its breast and is mostly an olive green colour. It seems to really like sunflower seeds but is very shy and won't stay on the feeder long enough to get a picture.

If anybody knows what it is, or of any good websites I might find out it would be appreciated! So curious!
